Al Lubel became a lawyer to please his mother and a comedian to please
his sadistic need to torture her. After graduating from law school, Al
moved to Los Angeles, passed the bar exam on his first try – and
immediately began the practice of...stand-up comedy!
Al Lubel Lawyer by day and comedian by night... At the comedy clubs, the
crowds would stare. In the courtroom, the juries would laugh. Al gradually
began getting work on the road, soon becoming a full-time comic and quit
law. This was a good decision, because within a year he won the $100,000
Grand Prize for comedy on Star Search. "The
Tonight Show" was another childhood fantasy. When Al heard Johnny
Carson was retiring, he auditioned and became one of the last
comics to appear on "The Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson.
Jay Leno was watching that night and has since booked
Al for numerous "Tonight Show" appearances (7 total)
- including the recurring character of NBC Legal Analyst.
He has also appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman
and dozens of other shows on network and cable.
