Katharine McPhee

Katharine McPhee is the 2006 runner up from this season's Fox smash hit "American Idol: The Search for a Superstar." A native of Sherman Oaks, California (a Los Angeles suburb), McPhee graduated in 2002 from Notre Dame High School. Katharine has been singing her entire life. Her mother, a vocal coach, recognized a talent for music in her daughter and started training her. Katharine graduated from NDHS in 2002. She then attended the Boston Conservatory of Music before returning to southern California and becoming active in local theater. In late 2005, Katharine auditioned for American Idol and passed with flying colours into the Hollywood round. A young brunette who sings in the style of Joss Stone and Alicia Keys, her fans' "McPheever" couldn't overcome the "Soul Patrol" that supported winner Taylor Hicks. Like Hicks, she has since signed to series creator Simon Fuller's 19 Recordings Limited and RCA. The 22-year-old's interpretations of "Over the Rainbow" and "My Destiny" will comprise her first single, due June 27 digitally and in stores.
Another song from the Los Angeles native, a cover of Aretha Franklin's' "Think," was made available two weeks ago on the "American Idol Season 5: Encores" compilation. The RCA set bowed last at No. 3 on The Billboard 200.
An estimated 36.4 million people tuned in to see her and Hicks battle for the crown of American Idol on the May 24 nale, the third biggest audience draw on television behind the Super Bowl and the Academy Awards.
