Pat Boone

BIOGRAPHy

There is no doubt that Pat Boone is the original American Idol, and his appeal continues to be universal in scope! Singer, actor/TV host, producer, songwriter, author, motivational speaker, TV pitchman, radio personality and humanitarian, Pat’s contribution to the American culture and country’s consciousness has reached legendary status. With over 45 million records sold and 38 top 40 hits, he’s recognized by Billboard Magazine as the #10 rock recording artist in history, placing higher on that impressive chart than either Madonna or Billy. Boone’s teen idol success led him to star in 14 major movie features with stars such as Ann Margaret, James Mason, Debbie Reynolds and Tony Curtis. In fact, he was Elvis’ main competition at that time. Boone became the youngest person to have his own weekly musical variety TV show, and in 1959 he wrote the lyric to the theme from the movie “Exodus,” about the creation of the State of Israel. It provided him with a special connection with the country, one that he has maintained. He possesses an Israel Cultural Award, the country’s highest award for a non native. Boone still holds the Billboard record for spending 220 consecutive weeks on the charts with one or more songs each week. See him perform live!

Career Path

1955Covered Fats Domino's 'Ain't That a Shame' on Dot Records, sending it to the top of the pop charts and selling over a million copies within months of release.
1957Signed to a seven-year contract with 20th Century-Fox and starred in 'Bernardine' and 'April Love,' each generating No. 1 singles, including 'Love Letters in the Sand', and establishing him as Elvis Presley's main commercial rival.
1957Became the youngest person to host his own weekly musical variety television program, 'The Pat Boone Chevy Showroom,' which ran for three seasons on ABC.
1959Wrote the English lyrics to Ernest Gold's theme from Otto Preminger's film 'Exodus,' forging a lifelong connection with Israel that later earned him that country's highest cultural honor for a non-native.
1961Charted 'Moody River' at No. 1, part of the record-setting streak that saw him place at least one song on the Billboard charts for 220 consecutive weeks, a record he still holds.
1997Shocked the music world with 'In a Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy,' a full album of hard-rock and heavy metal covers that drew both controversy and wide media attention.
2022Re-introduced 'The Exodus Song (This Land Is Mine)' to younger generations in a duet with Margo Joy, keeping his signature connection to the State of Israel alive across six decades.
2024Celebrated his 90th birthday with a rare live performance alongside his daughter Debby Boone, billed as a 'once-in-a-lifetime' event.
2025Debuted on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart for the first time in nearly 50 years with the charity single 'One: Voices for Tanzania,' featuring Vince Gill, Lee Greenwood, Alabama, and Pam Tillis, setting a new record for the longest span between chart appearances at 63 years.
