BIOGRAPHy

After years of experience in the stand-up circuit, Hughley took on the role of host of BET’s Comic View in 1992, in addition to various other television appearances on comedy programs and sitcoms. He was raised in Southern California, where he would spend the majority of his performing life as well. Once Hughley had gained some attention as a stand-up comedian, he appeared on an HBO special, which led to his status as host of Comic View. In 1995, he played Marlon on the TV series Double Rush, and starred on The Hughleys as himself in 1998. The following year, he performed the voice for the Gadgetmobile in the live-action film Inspector Gadget, inspired by the 1980s cartoon series of the same name. He appeared in the Spike Lee documentary, The Original Kings of Comedy, which also featured Steve Harvery, Cedric the Entertainer, and Bernie Mac. After The Hughleys wrapped in 2002, he continued to remain a constant fixture on the comedy scene, appearing in additional films like 2004’s Soul Plane. He also took on the recurring role of Simon Stiles on the short-lived Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip in 2006 and 2007 as well as the comedy series Glory Daze in 2011. Venturing back into film,  More recent credits include Dancing with the Stars, Trust Me, I’m a Game Show Host and Heartbeat. D.L. Hughley knows how to make people laugh.

1992Hosted 'ComicView' on BET after grinding the Southern California stand-up circuit for years, establishing himself as a major voice in urban comedy.
1993Appeared in the third season of 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' as Will's comedian friend Keith Campbell, broadening his television footprint.
1998Starred in the hit semi-autobiographical ABC/UPN sitcom 'The Hughleys', which ran for four seasons.
2000Appeared alongside Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer, and Bernie Mac in Spike Lee's landmark concert documentary 'The Original Kings of Comedy'.
2006Took on the recurring role of Simon Stiles in Aaron Sorkin's NBC drama 'Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip', showcasing dramatic range alongside his comedy work.
2008Launched his own CNN talk show 'D.L. Hughley Breaks the News', becoming one of the few stand-up comedians to anchor a cable news program.
2019Released the Netflix stand-up special 'Contrarian', his 11th special, filmed at the Merriam Theater in Philadelphia and available globally on the platform.
2020'Surrender, White People!', his fourth book, published by Harper Collins, joined two previous satirical titles as a New York Times bestseller.
2021Published 'How to Survive America', his fifth book, via Custom House with contributions from Doug Moe, extending his career as a political satirist beyond the stage.
2022Grew 'The D.L. Hughley Show' into a nationally syndicated radio presence across more than 60 cities, including New York, while simultaneously releasing the show as a daily podcast.
2024Co-headlined the 'Funnier than a Mutha 3' arena comedy tour alongside Eddie Griffin and Jes Hilarious, with dates including Texas Trust CU Theatre in Grand Prairie.
