Grace Potter and the Nocturnals formed in 2002 in Waitsfield, Vermont and began their career as an indie band, self-producing their albums and touring extensively in the jam band, music festival circuit, playing as many as 200 gigs in a year. In 2005, they signed for Hollywood Records; they have published four studio albums, encompassing rock subgenres such as blues rock, folk rock, hard rock, and alternative rock. Their third, self-titled album (2010) has been a major commercial success, topping iTunes charts and receiving international attention. The band’s appeal and public image is largely due to lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Grace Potter, who is well known for her vocal qualities (sometimes compared to rock and blues cult singers like Janis Joplin or Koko Taylor) as well as for her vibrant energy on stage. Besides playing with the Nocturnals, she has released solo material and collaborated with other artists. In 2015, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals released Midnight. One of her most notable mainstream successes is “You and Tequila,” a multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated duet with country star Kenny Chesney. Her recent work, particularly the 2023 album Mother Road, marks a return to her gritty rock roots. The album was inspired by a transformative solo cross-country road trip she took during the pandemic, exploring themes of self-discovery and the American landscape Throughout her career, Potter has remained a relentless tourer, frequently headlining major venues and collaborating with industry legends like The Rolling Stones and Robert Plant.
