Imagine Dragons was founded by lead vocalist Dan Reynolds and drummer Andrew Tolman, who met as students at Brigham Young University. The current core lineup features Reynolds alongside guitarist Wayne Sermon and bassist Ben McKee. Longtime drummer Daniel Platzman, who joined in 2011, announced his departure from the band in 2024. The band’s name is a famously guarded secret; it is an anagram of a phrase known only to the members. After building a local following and winning several “Best Local Band” accolades, they signed with Interscope Records in 2011. Their major-label debut, the 2012 album Night Visions, propelled them to global stardom with the Diamond-certified hits “Radioactive” and “Demons”. “Radioactive” set a then-record for the most weeks spent on the Billboard Hot 100 and was hailed by Rolling Stone as the “biggest rock hit of the year”. Over the following decade, Imagine Dragons solidified their place as arena-rock titans with successful albums like Smoke + Mirrors (2015), Evolve (2017), Origins (2018), and the Mercury (2021–2022) series. The band has since released Loom in 2024. Known for blending rock with electronic and pop elements, they became the first group in RIAA history to have four songs certified higher than Diamond—”Radioactive,” “Demons,” “Believer,” and “Thunder”. Beyond music, Reynolds is a prominent advocate for LGBTQ+ youth and founded the LOVELOUD Festival. With over 75 million records sold, they remain one of the world’s best-selling music artists.
