Karen Bergreen

Two huge benefits came with Karen Bergreen’s decision to leave behind a budding career as a corporate lawyer … one less lawyer and one more fine comedienne. A rising star on the New York comedy scene, Karen is quickly becoming recognized for her quirky persona and sharp intellect throughout the country. In a relatively short time, Karen has earned invitations to perform at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen Colorado (twice), The Friars Club in New York City and The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Karen has also performed her stand up on television on Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend,” Metro Channel’s “New Joke City” with Robert Klein, “Gotham Comedy Live” on Axs TV and most recently on ABC’s “The View.” As an actress, Karen has been seen on a variety of commercials, independent films and NBC’s Law & Order.

Career Path

2000Left a career as a corporate lawyer to pursue stand-up comedy full-time, drawing on Ivy League credentials and a sharp wit to carve out a niche in the competitive New York City scene.
2003Invited twice to perform at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado, placing her among a select group of comedians showcasing at the premier HBO-backed showcase.
2004Performed stand-up at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and The Friars Club in New York City, two of the most storied stages in American comedy.
2006Taped a stand-up set for Comedy Central's 'Premium Blend' and appeared on Metro Channel's 'New Joke City' alongside host Robert Klein.
2011Published her debut comic novel 'Following Polly,' blending her legal background and observational comedy voice into a critically noted work of fiction.
2012Published her second novel 'Perfect Is Overrated,' cementing her reputation as a comedian who operates with equal confidence on stage and on the page.
2014Appeared on ABC's 'The View' to perform stand-up and guest on 'Gotham Comedy Live' on AXS TV, expanding her national television footprint.
2016Made multiple appearances on 'The Jim Gaffigan Show' as an actress, adding a recurring television credit to her resume alongside her Law & Order appearance on NBC.
2019Taped a stand-up special for Dry Bar Comedy, bringing her sharply observed material about parenting and identity to the platform's national streaming audience.
2022Co-founded and headlined the Ruthless Comedy Hour, a monthly live variety show in New York City produced with fellow comedians Cynthia Kaplan and Cory Kahaney, entering its fifth consecutive year of sold-out runs.
