BIOGRAPHy

He’s the rebel musician who wants to make the world a better place. A favorite of the band U2, Michael Franti is an American rapper, musician, poet, spoken word artist and singer-songwriter. Franti has participated in many musical projects, including the Beatnigs and the Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy. Franti is the creator and lead vocalist of his current independent project, Michael Franti & Spearhead, a band that blends hip hop with a variety of other styles, including funk, reggae, jazz, folk, and rock. He is a staunch supporter for a wide array of peace and social justice issues, especially peace in the Middle East. Franti made a film, I Know I’m Not Alone, about the cost of war in the Middle East. His most recent album, Soulrocker, hit #5 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart and #17 on Billboard’s Top Current Albums chart.  In 2017, he played 110 shows for over 450,000 fans, and over the course of his career has been a perennial favorite at major festivals around the world.  He is currently writing and recording his 10th studio album which is due out in 2018.  Franti continues to try and improve the world as he tours hard, winning devoted fans wherever he travels. Career Path

1994Founded Michael Franti and Spearhead after his work with the Beatnigs and Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, debuting with the album 'Home' and fusing hip-hop, funk, reggae, jazz, and folk into a signature sound.
2006Released the documentary film 'I Know I'm Not Alone,' shot in Iraq, Israel, and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, confronting the human cost of war with only a guitar and a camera crew.
2008'Say Hey (I Love You)' became Franti's biggest commercial hit and one of three Billboard No. 1 singles he would earn over his career.
2016'Soulrocker' hit No. 5 on Billboard's Top Rock Albums chart and No. 17 on Billboard's Top Current Albums chart, his highest-charting studio album to date.
2017Headlined 110 shows for over 450,000 fans, cementing Spearhead's reputation as one of the most consistently active touring acts in American roots music.
2020Released 'Work Hard and Be Nice,' a pandemic-era album of hopeful anthems that preceded the band's return to stages worldwide.
2022Released 'Follow Your Heart' via Thirty Tigers and brought the Follow Your Heart Tour to venues including Central Park, marking a full return to large-scale live performance.
2023'Big Big Love,' his 13th studio album released via Thirty Tigers, debuted in the iTunes Pop Top 5 alongside Taylor Swift and toured with SOJA, Tank and the Bangas, and Phillip Phillips.
2025Released his 14th studio album 'Welcome to the Family' and launched the Welcome to the Family Tour, a major U.S. summer run celebrating chosen community and committed love.
