BIOGRAPHy

Abel Tesfaye, better known by his stage name The Weeknd, is an R&B Canadian recording artist and record producer from Toronto. He began recording songs under The Weeknd and uploading them to YouTube in late 2010. In March 2011, The Weeknd released a nine-song free album, House of Balloons, which was critically acclaimed. The title track is based on a sample of Siouxsie and the Banshees’ hit single “Happy House.” The first album is a part of a trilogy, which includes Thursday released in August of the same year and Echoes of Silence issued in December. The Weeknd released Beauty Behind the Madness in 2015. The Weeknd continues to record and tour the world.

Career Path

2011Toronto-born Abel Tesfaye released the free nine-track mixtape 'House of Balloons' under the name The Weeknd, with the title track built on a sample of Siouxsie and the Banshees' 'Happy House', drawing immediate critical acclaim.
2011Completed the mixtape trilogy with 'Thursday' and 'Echoes of Silence', released the same year, establishing a dark, cinematic R&B sound entirely his own.
2015Released 'Beauty Behind the Madness', the major-label debut that produced the crossover smash 'Can't Feel My Face' and proved his pop reach without sacrificing the noir atmosphere of his mixtape roots.
2016'Starboy', featuring Daft Punk, topped charts worldwide and earned the Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album, with Kendrick Lamar and Lana Del Rey among additional collaborators on the record.
2020Released 'After Hours', spawning 'Blinding Lights', which broke records as one of the longest-charting Billboard Hot 100 singles in history.
2021Headlined the Super Bowl LV Halftime Show solo at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, performing hits including 'Starboy', 'House of Balloons', and 'Blinding Lights' with an army of bandaged dancers.
2022Released 'Dawn FM', a concept album narrated by Jim Carrey with guest appearances by Quincy Jones and Tyler, the Creator, described critically as a dance party in purgatory.
2023Co-created and starred in the HBO series 'The Idol' alongside Lily-Rose Depp, producing both the show and its accompanying original music.
2025Released 'Hurry Up Tomorrow' as his final album under The Weeknd moniker, debuting with 450K units sold in its first week, then starred in the Lionsgate psychological thriller film of the same name opposite Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan.
