BIOGRAPHy

American singer and producer Pharrell Williams is a singer-songwriter, rapper, record producer, drummer and fashion designer. Williams and Chad Hugo make up the record production duo The Neptunes, producing soul, hip hop and R&B music. He is also the lead vocalist and drummer of rock, funk, and hip hop band N.E.R.D, which he formed with Hugo and childhood friend Shay Haley. He released his first single “Frontin'” in 2003 and followed up with his debut solo album In My Mind in 2006. His latest smash hit “Happy” is from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack album and serves as the lead single of Williams’ upcoming second studio album, G I R L (2014). “Happy” topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart and charts in 15 other countries. As part of The Neptunes, Williams has produced numerous hit singles for various musicians. Williams has earned seven Grammy Awards including two with The Neptunes. He currently owns a media venture that encompasses entertainment, music, fashion, and art called i am OTHER. He is also the co-founder of the clothing brands Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream.

Career Path

1992Co-founded the production duo The Neptunes with Chad Hugo after being discovered by producer Teddy Riley at a high school talent show, signing to Riley's label and launching one of hip-hop's most prolific production careers.
2001Formed N.E.R.D. with Hugo and childhood friend Shay Haley, debuting with 'In Search of...' and establishing Williams as both a rock-funk frontman and a beatmaker who defied genre.
2003Released debut solo single 'Frontin'' while The Neptunes won the Grammy Award for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical, cementing his dual identity as performer and architect behind hits for Jay-Z, Nelly, and Justin Timberlake.
2006Dropped debut solo album 'In My Mind,' built around his distinctive blend of soul, funk, and hip-hop, expanding the i am OTHER media brand that would grow to encompass entertainment, music, fashion, and art.
2013Featured on Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky' and Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines,' two of the year's biggest global singles, re-establishing Williams as the decade's most ubiquitous collaborator.
2013'Happy,' written for the 'Despicable Me 2' soundtrack, topped the Billboard Hot 100 and charts in 15 countries, won the Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance, and became one of the best-selling singles of all time.
2016Produced and wrote the score for the Oscar-nominated film 'Hidden Figures,' bringing Williams' compositional range to a major historical drama.
2023Appointed Men's Creative Director at Louis Vuitton, debuting his first runway collection at Paris Men's Fashion Week and becoming the most prominent Black creative director in French luxury fashion history.
2024Subject of the Lego-animated theatrical biopic 'Piece by Piece,' directed by Oscar-winner Morgan Neville, tracing Williams' journey from Virginia Beach to global stardom.
2025Produced Clipse's fourth studio album 'Let God Sort Em Out,' serving as sole executive producer and reuniting with Pusha T and No Malice for the duo's first album since 2009.
