BIOGRAPHy

Savion Glover, Tony winner, hoofer, choreographer, and producer is celebrating his 28th year as a hoofer in show business. Broadway and film credits include: The Tap Dance Kid, Black & Blue, Jelly’s Last Jam, Bring in ‘da Noise Bring in ‘da Funk, the movie Tap with Gregory Hines and Sammy Davis, Jr., Spike Lee’s Bamboozled, and the acclaimed Academy Award winning 2006 Happy Feet. Mr. Glover dances on concert stages throughout the world and recently formed Savion Glover Productions, whose credits include Classical Savion, Savion Glover’s Bare Soundz, Visions of a Bible and Savion Glover’s SOLO IN TIME. Savion Glover continues to celebrate the art form of Tap and continues to tour the world.

Career Path

1984Made his Broadway debut in 'The Tap Dance Kid' as a child performer, becoming one of the youngest actors to earn prominent billing in a major Broadway production.
1989Performed in the Broadway musical revue 'Black & Blue', earning a Tony Award nomination, one of the youngest nominees in the award's history.
1992Portrayed Young Jelly in George C. Wolfe's 'Jelly's Last Jam' on Broadway, a collaboration that would directly seed the creation of 'Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk'.
1996Conceived, choreographed, and starred in 'Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk' on Broadway, winning the Tony Award for Best Choreography for a show that reframed tap dance as a vehicle for African American history.
2000Starred as tap-dancing minstrel Manray/Mantan in Spike Lee's film 'Bamboozled', bringing his kinetic 'hitting' technique to a major studio satirical feature.
2006Provided the motion-capture dance performance behind Mumble the penguin in the Academy Award-winning animated film 'Happy Feet', co-choreographing sequences that earned the film its Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
2011Reprised his motion-capture role in 'Happy Feet 2', again serving as co-choreographer for the sequel's dance sequences.
2016Choreographed 'Shuffle Along, or, the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed' on Broadway, earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Choreography.
2023Toured 'PaRT.TU The LaST HooFeR STaNDiNG', the second installment of his Cinema Stage CoLLeqSHuNz exploring tap, mental health, and self-expression, with performances at Blue Note Jazz Club and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.
2024Brought 'PaRT.TU The LaST HooFeR STaNDiNG' to The Egg in Albany and the Dakota in Minneapolis, sustaining a national touring run through concert venues and performing arts centers.
