Ari Shaffer

BIOGRAPHy

Ari Shaffir

In addition to his numerous appearances on the Joe Rogan podcast, comedian Ari Shaffir is best known for his last special, “Jew,” which has garnered almost 6 million views and was written up in The NY Times in its list of best specials of the year. You might also know Ari from the storytelling show he created and hosted on Comedy Central called “This Is Not Happening.” Ari also has a Netflix special called “Double Negative” and a Comedy Central special called “Paid Regular.” Ari Shaffir has also appeared on WTF with Marc Maron, The Adam Carolla show, Your Mom’s House, 2 Bears 1 Cave, Theo Von’s podcast, Andrew Schulz’s podcast, TigerBelly, and many, many more. These appearances have made him a favorite in the comedy podcast world. His own podcast, Ari Shaffir’s Skeptic Tank is a chart topper that comes out every week wherever you watch or listen to podcasts. Ari is the reigning president of the LOS podcast to which he has no affiliation. And he placed first in the non-steroid category of the legendary Sober October challenge, which he also destroyed shortly thereafter, so he could found Protect Our Parks with Shane Gillis and Mark Normand, which he fooled Joe Rogan into hosting. Shaffir remains a staunch advocate for creative independence, consistently touring comedy clubs and international festivals worldwide while delivering uncompromised, raw counter-culture comedy. Don’t miss your chance to see him LIVE!

Career Path

1999Moved to Los Angeles after finishing college and worked his way up the ranks at the Comedy Store under Mitzi Shore, graduating from unpaid phone duty to a paid regular spot alongside the club's alternative comedy scene.
2009Performed the Nasty Show at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal, sharing the raunchy late-night bill that cemented his reputation within the alternative comedy circuit built around Joe Rogan and the Comedy Store crew.
2012Released his debut hour Revenge for the Holocaust on September 25, an independently distributed special recorded without a network deal that built his early reputation for confrontational, taboo-baiting material within the Comedy Store's alternative stand-up scene.
2015Premiered This Is Not Happening on Comedy Central as creator and host, the storytelling showcase he built five years earlier with Eric Abrams into a stage show that toured festivals before landing its own series order.
2017Sold his special Double Negative to Netflix and exited This Is Not Happening after three seasons as creator and host, handing hosting duties to Roy Wood Jr. for the show's fourth season on Comedy Central.
2020Sparked national backlash after a since-deleted tweet mocking Kobe Bryant's death went viral days after the crash, costing him his talent agency representation and a New York Comedy Club booking once the venue received threats tied to the joke.
2022Dropped Jew, a self-produced special digging into his Orthodox yeshiva upbringing and lapsed faith, releasing it independently on YouTube where it drew millions of views without any network or streaming distribution deal in place at first.
2023Ended Skeptic Tank, his weekly podcast launched in 2010, after thirteen years on the air, closing out the confessional interview show that had built a loyal following across the alternative comedy podcast circuit for over a decade.
2025Premiered America's Sweetheart on Netflix in January, a special built around finding positivity in dark material, part of a new deal that also brought his independent special Jew to the platform for the first time.
2026Co-created The End, a seven-episode storytelling series for YMH Studios, launching April 16 with Shane Gillis, Nate Bargatze, and Tom Segura as he revived the live-audience format after his contentious 2017 exit from This Is Not Happening.
