Billy Strings

Virtuoso guitarist, singer, and songwriter Billy Strings has revolutionized the landscape of contemporary roots music. Born in Michigan, Strings has blown past traditional genre boundaries by fusing lightning-fast bluegrass pickin’ with psych-rock improvisation, heavy metal energy, and jam-band sensibilities. He initially captured the music world’s  attention with his 2019 studio album Home, which took home the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album.His meteoric rise established him as a premier touring force capable of selling out multi-night arena runs. Strings expanded his critical acclaim with the 20-track release Highway Prayers, a record produced alongside Jon Brion that secured another Best Bluegrass Album victory at the 2026 Grammy Awards. Continuing his artistic evolution, he completed a highly anticipated, studio follow-up project under the guidance of legendary producer T Bone Burnett. Backed by his incredibly tight longtime touring band, the Nashville-based musician remains a definitive trailblazer, successfully bridging the gap between traditional Americana heritage and massive mainstream rock appeal.

Career Path

2017Debuted as a solo artist with 'Turmoil & Tinfoil,' which reached No. 3 on the Billboard Bluegrass Albums chart and introduced his flatpicking style alongside banjoist Billy Failing, launching his rise as bluegrass's most technically dazzling young guitarist.
2019Signed to Rounder Records and released sophomore album 'Home,' co-produced with Glenn Brown and featuring guest turns from Molly Tuttle and Jerry Douglas, which spent 77 weeks on the Billboard Bluegrass Albums chart and reached No. 1, marking his commercial breakthrough.
2019Won IBMA New Artist of the Year and Guitar Player of the Year, sweeping the genre's top individual honors in his breakout year and signaling a generational shift in bluegrass flatpicking technique and stage presence.
2021Earned the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album for 'Home' at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, his first career Grammy win, validating the boundary-pushing sound he had built since signing with Rounder Records two years earlier.
2021Released third studio album 'Renewal,' produced by Jonathan Wilson and stretching into heavy metal and psychedelic textures, and claimed the first of four IBMA Entertainer of the Year trophies at the 32nd Annual IBMA Bluegrass Music Awards.
2022Teamed with stepfather Terry Barber on duo album 'Me/And/Dad,' a 14-song set of bluegrass and country standards featuring Jerry Douglas and Ron McCoury, and repeated as IBMA Entertainer of the Year for a second straight year.
2024Issued 'Live Vol. 1,' his first official live album, an eight-track set drawn from 2023 and 2024 shows at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, Austin's Moody Center, and Atlanta's State Farm Arena, debuting atop the Bluegrass Albums chart.
2024Released fourth studio album 'Highway Prayers,' his first for Reprise Records, a 20-track set produced with Jon Brion that topped Billboard's all-genre Top Album Sales chart and reached No. 22 on the Billboard 200.
2025Earned the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album for 'Live Vol. 1' at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, held at Los Angeles's Crypto.com Arena, his second career Grammy after edging out nominees including the Del McCoury Band and Tony Trischka.
2026Claimed a third career Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album with 'Highway Prayers' at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, following prior wins for 'Home' and 'Live Vol. 1' and confirming his run as the genre's dominant contemporary voice.
