BIOGRAPHy

Larry Wilmore is an Emmy Award-winning TV producer, actor, comedian and writer whose career spans more than 20 years. He is currently the host of The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, which airs on Comedy Central. He recently served as executive producer of the ABC comedy, “Blackish.”  Wilmore is best known for his memorable appearances as the “Senior Black Correspondent” on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, as well his own Showtime town hall-style comedy specials, Larry Wilmore’s Race, Religion & Sex. Wilmore has written for NBC’s The Office, The PJ’s, which he co-created, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and In Living Color. He also served as creator, executive producer, and writer of The Bernie Mac Show, for which he received the 2002 Emmy Award for “Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series” and a 2001 Peabody Award. Wilmore released his first book, “I’d Rather We Got Casinos and Other Black Thoughts“ in 2009. Larry Wilmore continues to perform around the globe. Great show!

Career Path

1994Wrote for 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' and 'In Living Color', establishing himself as a comedy-room voice in network television.
2001Created, executive-produced, and wrote 'The Bernie Mac Show', earning a Peabody Award and the Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for his pilot script.
2006Joined 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart' as the recurring 'Senior Black Correspondent', a role that became his signature calling card with mainstream audiences.
2009Published his debut book 'I'd Rather We Got Casinos and Other Black Thoughts', extending his satirical commentary beyond television.
2014Served as executive producer of ABC's 'Black-ish', helping shepherd creator Kenya Barris's family comedy to series.
2015Launched 'The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore' on Comedy Central, hosting 259 episodes of nightly political satire.
2016Headlined the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, delivering a pointed set before President Barack Obama that sparked national debate.
2017Launched the podcast 'Larry Wilmore: Black on the Air' on The Ringer network, which Time named one of its ten best podcasts of the year.
2022Executive-produced the Hulu legal drama 'Reasonable Doubt', alongside Kerry Washington, marking his first foray outside of comedy into primetime drama.
