Born in Ontario, Canada, Martin Short began his career on Canada's "SCTV Comedy Network," where his work garnered an Emmy Award. Short's ability as a comedic chameleon brought him to the attention of "Saturday Night Live." After only one season, Short was instantly recognized for his on-the-mark characters Ed Grimley, Jackie Rogers Jr., legendary songwriter Irving Cohen and lawyer Nathan Thurm. With the exposure he gained on "Saturday Night Live," he quickly crossed over into feature film work. Short made his big screen debut in "Three Amigos," where he worked along side Chevy Chase and Steve Martin. Other movies include "Inner Space," "Mars Attacks," "Jungle to Jungle," "Father of the Bride" and "Father of the Bride II." Short has also written, produced and starred in three highly acclaimed comedy specials for television where he won two Cable Ace awards and an Emmy. In the fall of '99, Short brought his talents to television when he hosted "The Martin Short Show." The show garnered seven Emmy nominations. Short also starred as Jiminy Glick in "Primetime Glick" for Comedy Central. Short has continued to tour in his one-man show, which features many of his best-loved characters and sketches. Most recently, Short appeared in the "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" and on Broadway in "It's Only a Play." No mincing words regarding Martin Short, he's truly one of the great ones. Truly.
