George Strait
George Strait is known as the King of Country and is considered one of the most influential and popular recording artists of all time. Strait has sold more than 100 million records, was named Artist of the Decade by the Academy of Country Music, was elected into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and has been nominated for more CMA and ACM awards than any other artist. Strait's first single, was released in 1981 and sparked a remarkable string of Top 10 hits. Strait capped the decade by winning the CMA entertainer of the year award. In 1992, Strait released the movie, "Pure Country" with the single, "I Cross My Heart," becoming one of his biggest hits. In 2000, he scored another No. 1 hit, "The Best Day." In 2004, "I Hate Everything" reached No. 1. Somewhere Down in Texas arrived in 2005, and his duet with Lee Ann Womack, "Good News, Bad News," won a CMA award for vocal event of the year. It Just Comes Natural offered the No. 1 hit, "Give It Away." However, the year's highlight was his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. George Strait holds the world record for more number-one hit singles than any other artist in the history of music on any chart or any genre, having recorded 59 number-one hit singles and counting. Still very active, this legend continues to tour and please the masses.
