BIOGRAPHy

As the lead singer of Live, Ed Kowalczyk fronted one of the most successful bands of the ‘90s, coming to prominence with their 1994 sophomore album, Throwing Copper. With his bald head and intense eyes, Kowalczyk cut a distinctive figure, but what separated him from other ‘90s alt-rockers was his utter earnestness, preferring sincerity to irony. Live released seven albums between 1991 and 2006 before splitting, with Kowalczyk launching a solo career in 2010 with Alive, his first major activity outside of Live in his professional career. The record debuted at 166 on the Billboard charts but six on the magazine’s Christian chart. In 2103, he released The Flood and The Mercy. Ed Kowalczyk continues to tour the world.

Career Path

1991Fronted Live's debut release, establishing the band as a fixture on the emerging alternative rock circuit.
1994"Throwing Copper" vaulted Live into the mainstream, with Kowalczyk's earnest, irony-free vocal style setting the band apart from their alt-rock contemporaries.
1999Toured major amphitheaters alongside Bush and Our Lady Peace in support of Live's catalog, cementing the band's status as a perennial arena draw.
2006Live released their seventh and final pre-hiatus studio album, capping fifteen years of output before the band split.
2010Launched his solo career with the debut album "Alive," which debuted at number six on Billboard's Christian chart.
2013Released the solo record "The Flood and the Mercy," exploring a new alternative sound outside the Live framework.
2016Rejoined the original Live lineup for a global reunion tour, returning to arenas for the first time in a decade.
2019Released new Live singles including "O'T" and headlined a co-billed North American run with Bush and Our Lady Peace.
2024Led Live on the "Jubilee" co-headlining arena tour with Stone Temple Pilots, performing "Throwing Copper" in its entirety to mark the album's 30th anniversary, with Soul Asylum as direct support.
2024Released "Lady Bhang (She Got Me Rollin')", Live's first new studio recording in six years, featuring guest guitar work from Stone Temple Pilots' Dean DeLeo.
