Born in Halifax, England, Ed Sheeran rose from a busking teenager to one of the world’s most successful singer-songwriters. Raised in Framlingham, Suffolk, he was immersed in an artistic household and began writing songs at age eleven. After moving to London at 17, Sheeran’s relentless work ethic saw him perform over 300 gigs in a single year. His independent 2011 EP, No. 5 Collaborations Project, caught the attention of Elton John and Jamie Foxx, leading to a deal with Asylum Records. His debut album, + (Plus), launched him into the mainstream with the hit “The A Team”. Sheeran’s subsequent albums—x (Multiply), ÷ (Divide), = (Equals), and – (Subtract)—solidified his status as a global icon. Record-breaking singles like “Thinking Out Loud,””Shape of You,” and “Perfect” have earned him four Grammy Awards and seven Brit Awards. Notably, his ÷ Tour (2017–2019) became the highest-grossing concert tour of all time at its conclusion. Beyond his solo career, Sheeran is a prolific songwriter for other stars, including Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber, and founded his own label, Gingerbread Man Records. He was appointed an MBE in 2017 for services to music and charity. Today, Sheeran remains a defining voice of his generation, blending folk, pop, and hip-hop with his signature loop-pedal performances.
