BIOGRAPHy

Jethro Tull was and still is a unique phenomenon in popular music. Their mix of hard rock, folk melodies, blues licks, surreal, impossibly dense lyrics and overall profundity defied easy analysis, but that didn’t dissuade fans from giving them 11 gold and five platinum albums. No record store in the country would want to be without multiple copies of each of their most popular albums (Benefit, Aqualung, Thick as a Brick, Living in the Past), or their various best-of compilations. Of their contemporaries, only Yes could claim a similar degree of success, and Yes endured several major shifts in sound and membership in reaching the 1990s, while Tull remained remarkably stable over the same period.  In 1993, Chrysalis released a four-CD 25th Anniversary Box Set consisting of remixed versions of their hits, live shows from across their history and a handful of new tracks. As co-founded and led by wildman-flautist-guitarist-singer-songwriter Ian Anderson, the group has carved a place all its own in popular music. Jethro Tull continues to perform to big houses when they tour. 

Career Path

1968Released debut album 'This Was', introducing Ian Anderson's wildman flute-and-guitar fusion to the British rock scene and launching one of progressive music's most distinctive careers.
1971'Aqualung' became their commercial breakthrough, anchored by 'Locomotive Breath' and showcasing the blend of hard rock, folk melody, and impossibly dense lyrical profundity that defied easy categorization.
1972Pushed the boundaries of album composition with 'Thick as a Brick', an entire side-long suite that became one of progressive rock's landmark statements and one of the catalog's five platinum sellers.
1987Won the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance for 'Crest of a Knave', a controversially awarded honor that nonetheless confirmed their ongoing commercial and critical standing.
1993Chrysalis released a four-CD 25th Anniversary Box Set featuring remixed hits, live recordings spanning their full history, and a handful of new tracks, cementing their catalog's place in any serious rock record store.
2022Released 'The Zealot Gene', their first studio album under the Jethro Tull name in nearly 20 years, which reached Number 9 on the UK album charts and gave them their first Top 10 in Britain in five decades.
2023Released the 23rd studio album 'RokFlote', inspired by Norse mythology and featuring Anderson's flute-driven compositions, then took both albums on the road as the Seven Decades Tour across North America and Europe.
2024Continued the Seven Decades Tour with European dates, blending catalog favorites from 'Aqualung' and 'Thick as a Brick' with new material in sets that drew on 56 years of recorded work.
2025Released 24th studio album 'Curious Ruminant' via Inside Out Music, a nine-track set recorded with guitarist Jack Clark making his first Tull studio appearance alongside longtime rhythm section members.
2025Launched a 45-date European and UK tour in support of 'Curious Ruminant', with nearly 20 performances in England, Wales, and Scotland and additional stops across Italy, Germany, Finland, Spain, Denmark, and Austria.
