John Fogerty

BIOGRAPHy

John Fogerty

John Fogerty achieved fame as the lead singer/songwriter and guitarist in Creedence Clearwater Revival and has since gone on to a chart-topping solo career. Creedence released nine Top Ten singles, all written by Fogerty, between 1969 and 1971, starting with the standard “Proud Mary.” They also scored eight gold albums between 1968 and 1972, all fueled by Fogerty’s simple, driving rock songs and his burly baritone. Creedence split up in 1972. Fogerty first released an album of covers on which he played all the instruments, under the name the Blue Ridge Rangers, in 1973. This was followed by a formal solo album, John Fogerty, in 1975 – and then silence for more than nine years, returning in 1984 with a Top Ten single, “The Old Man Down the Road,” and a number one album, Centerfield. Eye of the Zombie was released in 1986 after which Fogerty went into seclusion finally resurfacing in 1997 with Blue Moon Swamp; the live Premonition appeared just a year later. After a number of concert appearances, Fogerty released Revival in 2007. It debuted at 14 on Billboard, earning a Grammy nomination. Fogerty followed it in 2009 with The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again. Fogerty released Wrote a Song For Everyone in 2013. He continues to record and tour the world.

Career Path

1968Fronted Creedence Clearwater Revival's self-titled debut and 'Proud Mary / Born on the Bayou,' introducing the swamp-rock sound that would dominate AM radio for the next four years.
1969Charted four Top-10 singles in a single calendar year, 'Proud Mary,' 'Bad Moon Rising,' 'Green River,' and 'Fortunate Son', a feat no other act matched in 1969.
1985'Centerfield,' the lead track from his comeback solo album of the same name, became one of the defining songs of baseball culture and returned Fogerty to the top of the pop charts.
1993Creedence Clearwater Revival earned induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; Fogerty performed CCR classics at the ceremony with Bruce Springsteen and Robbie Robertson rather than his estranged former bandmates.
2013'Wrote a Song for Everyone' paired Fogerty with a generation of artists who grew up on CCR, Foo Fighters on 'Fortunate Son,' Bob Seger on 'Who'll Stop the Rain,' and Brad Paisley on 'Hot Rod Heart', debuting to strong reviews.
2023Regained ownership of his full CCR publishing catalog from Concord Records, ending a 50-year legal battle and earning the right to present his songs as 'John's Version.'
2023Launched 'The Celebration Tour', his first public performance of CCR material since winning back the catalog, with his sons Shane and Tyler in the band alongside George Thorogood and The Destroyers.
2025Released 'Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years (John's Version),' a freshly recorded collection of 20 CCR classics that debuted in the Top 10 of Billboard's Top Album Sales chart.
2026Extended the Legacy Tour into 2026 with stops at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, a multi-show Las Vegas run, and Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City, three decades of touring muscle matched with newly owned songs.
