John Mayer

After arriving on the scene as a sensitive, acoustic-styled songwriter on 2001’s Room for Squares, John Mayer steadily widened his approach over the years, encompassing everything from blues-rock to adult contemporary in the process. He crafted pop music for a more discerning audience, spiking his song craft with jazz chords and literate turns of phrase. The combination proved to be quite popular, as Room for Squares went triple platinum before its follow-up release, Heavier Things, arrived in 2003. Mayer continued to retool his sound with each album, however, moving beyond the material that had launched his career and adopting elements of rock, blues, and soul. Moreover, he partnered with legends of several genres, making guest appearances on albums by Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, and B.B. King, while touring alongside jazz icon Herbie Hancock. Mayer also retained enough pop/rock foundation to continue his reign of the charts, making him one of the rock’s most popular songwriters. John’s most recent release Sob Rock debuted #1 on th Album Rock Charts in 2021 and the video for the single “Lost Train Home” won Best Rock video at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards.  John Mayer continues to rock out all over the world.

Career Path

2001'Room for Squares' arrived and went triple platinum on the strength of 'Your Body Is a Wonderland,' establishing Mayer as a pop songwriter who could spike chart-friendly craft with jazz chords and literate phrasing.
2003'Heavier Things' debuted at the top of the Billboard 200, proving 'Room for Squares' was no one-album story.
2006'Continuum' earned Grammy Awards for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, with 'Gravity' performed live at the Grammy ceremony alongside Corinne Bailey Rae and John Legend.
2008Partnered with blues icons Buddy Guy, B.B. King, and Eric Clapton on guest appearances, then toured alongside jazz legend Herbie Hancock, signaling a deliberate move beyond the pop/rock foundation that launched his career.
2012Issued 'Born and Raised,' a country-influenced pivot produced with Don Was that opened an entirely new creative chapter with the single 'Shadow Days.'
2021'Sob Rock' debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Album Sales chart, and the video for lead single 'Last Train Home' took home Best Rock Video at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards.
2023Dead and Company wrapped its farewell tour with three sold-out nights at Oracle Park in San Francisco, drawing 120,000 fans, as Mayer served as lead guitarist alongside Grateful Dead co-founders Bob Weir and Mickey Hart.
2024Dead and Company launched the 'Dead Forever' residency at the Las Vegas Sphere, selling 477,000 tickets across 30 shows and grossing $131.4 million, ranking among the ten highest-grossing concert residencies of all time.
2025Dead and Company returned to the Sphere for an 18-show spring residency, then headlined three nights at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco in August celebrating 60 years of the Grateful Dead, with guests including Billy Strings and the Trey Anastasio Band.
