Rosanne Cash

BIOGRAPHy

Rosanne Cash, the daughter of Johnny Cash, was largely uninfluenced by her father’s music until she joined his road show following high school. Her 1979 album, Right or Wrong, featured three Top 25 hits, including “No Memories Hangin’ Round,” a duet with Bobby Bare. Cash issued her commercial breakthrough Seven Year Ache in 1981, which yielded three number one singles. The follow-up, 1982’s Somewhere in the Stars, produced two more Top Ten singles. After a three-year hiatus, Cash returned with Rhythm & Romance. The record earned her two more number ones. In 1987, she issued King’s Record Shop, which generated four number one hits. Interiors was released the following year and generated the hit, “What We Really Want.” The Wheel, released in 1993, ranked as her most musically diverse effort to date. In 2003, Cash returned with Rules of Travel, then Black Cadillac in 2006. The List, which appeared in 2009, featured songs from a personal list her father gave her when she turned 18 of what he considered the 100 most essential American songs. More recently, she released The River & the Thread in 2014. Rosanne Cash continues to vigorously hit the road.

1987'King's Record Shop' generated four No. 1 hits, making Cash the first artist in country history to score four chart-toppers from a single album.
1993Released 'The Wheel,' her most musically diverse effort to that point, signaling a turn toward the Americana and literary sensibility that would define her later work.
2006'Black Cadillac' responded directly to the deaths of her father Johnny Cash, her mother, and her stepmother June Carter Cash, a critically acclaimed reckoning with grief that deepened her reputation as a literary songwriter.
2009Released 'The List,' built on the handwritten inventory of 100 essential American songs her father gave her at eighteen, featuring collaborations with Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen, and Jeff Tweedy.
2014'The River & the Thread' won three Grammy Awards and was named among the best albums of the year by major critics, capping a creative resurgence rooted in the American South.
