BIOGRAPHy

Since the end of the 1990s, Steve Tyrell has made several albums based on jazz, holiday, and Disney standards. His work in the studio as a record producer has included collaborations with Rod Stewart, Diana Ross, Ray Charles, Smokey Robinson, Linda Ronstadt, Aaron Neville, Mary J. Blige, Blood Sweat and Tears, Chris Botti, Dave Koz, Dolly Parton, Bonnie Raitt, Burt Bacharach, Bette Midler and Stevie Wonder. He recently produced That’s Life, the debut album for Sony recording artist and winner of the 6th season of America’s Got Talent, Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr..As an artist, all 7 of his American Standards albums have achieved Top 5 status on Billboard’s Jazz charts; and his first album, A New Standard, was among the best-selling jazz albums for over 5 years. In May 2011, he recorded a live performance DVD at The Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston Texas. In 2013, he released It’s Magic – The Songs of Sammy Cahn. Steve Tyrell continues to perform to sold-out houses everywhere.

Career Path

1991Sang 'The Way You Look Tonight' for the film 'Father of the Bride', catching the attention of music industry figures and pivoting from behind-the-scenes production toward a performing career.
1999Debut album 'A New Standard' became one of the best-selling jazz albums of the following five years, landing in the Top 5 on Billboard's Traditional Jazz charts.
2004Grammy Award winner as producer of Rod Stewart's 'Stardust: The Great American Songbook, Volume III', capping a production career that included work with Diana Ross, Ray Charles, Bonnie Raitt, Burt Bacharach, and Stevie Wonder.
2005Inherited Bobby Short's iconic holiday residency at the Cafe Carlyle in Manhattan, establishing an annual tradition that would run for decades.
2011Produced 'That's Life', the Sony debut album for Landau Eugene Murphy Jr., winner of the sixth season of America's Got Talent, and recorded a live performance DVD at The Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston, Texas.
2013Released 'It's Magic: The Songs of Sammy Cahn', extending his streak of nine Top 5 albums on Billboard's Traditional Jazz charts.
2018'A Song for You' reached number one on the Billboard Traditional Jazz charts, his highest-charting album as a performer.
2021Released 'Shades of Ray: The Songs of Ray Charles', which London Jazz News called 'all killer, no filler', marking his return to the Cafe Carlyle circuit post-pandemic.
2023Returned to the Cafe Carlyle for his 19th engagement, sustaining one of New York cabaret's longest-running holiday residencies.
2024Hosted 'The Steve Tyrell Show' Monday through Friday on KJAZZ 88.1 FM in Los Angeles, bringing American Standards to a national radio audience.
