BIOGRAPHy

Street Corner Symphony was formed in May of 2010 for the sole purpose of winning the Sing Off. SCS brings a unique laid back southern soul to the competition, demonstrating notable influences from artists like Take 6 and Alison Krauss. While SCS offers a diverse repertoire, the group has a rich heritage in gospel music. Two of the members are grandsons of the legendary southern gospel tenor Bill Shaw of “The Blackwood Brothers”. In addition, five of the six members were preacher’s kids and grew up singing and learning music in church. SCS is made up of two sets of brothers and two other unrelated guys, and each brings a unique background and character to the group.

Career Path

2010Formed in Nashville with a lineup built around two sets of brothers, Jeremy and Jonathan Lister among them, five of six members preacher's kids who grew up singing gospel.
2010Finished runner-up on NBC's 'The Sing-Off' Season 2, winning over judges Ben Folds, Shawn Stockman, and Nicole Scherzinger with a laid-back southern soul approach rooted in Take 6 and Alison Krauss influences.
2011Released debut album 'UnPractice Makes Perfect,' introducing their all-vocal sound to audiences beyond the competition stage.
2013Released 'Southern Autumn Nostalgia,' ten original songs co-written by group members and featuring guest vocalists from Pentatonix, the King's Singers, and Voces8.
2015Collaborated with Take 6's Claude McKnight and Alison Krauss, connecting the group's gospel heritage to two of their founding musical influences.
2018Worked alongside Ben Folds, their original 'Sing-Off' judge, in a studio and live collaboration that bridged their competition origins to the broader pop-music world.
2019Delivered a cappella education clinics at schools and universities across the country, establishing the group as mentors as well as performers.
2022Released 'Jukebox,' their first album of family music, featuring eleven original songs arranged by bassist Armand Hutton.
2024Toured performing arts centers nationally, including dates at Cedarburg PAC and Pearl River Community College, sustaining their multi-generational live audience.
2025Maintained an active touring schedule with upcoming dates listed on Bandsintown and Songkick, continuing to perform across the United States.
