Sutto Foster

Award-winning actor, singer and dancer Sutton Foster feels blessed to be living her dream. Sutton was born in Georgia, raised in Michigan, and currently lives in New York City. She was first seen on television on Star Search at age 15. She has appeared in The Will Rogers Follies, Grease!, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Annie, and Les Miserables before her big break and Tony Award-winning performance in Thoroughly Modern Millie. Sutton originated roles in the Broadway productions of Little Women, The Drowsy Chaperone, Young Frankenstein, and Shrek the Musical. After starring as Reno Sweeney in The Roundabout’s revival of “Anything Goes”, a role that earned Sutton the 2011 Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics, Astaire, and Broadway.com’s Audience Favorite Awards, Sutton spent some time in LA where she starred in the ABC Family drama, “Bunheads”. She will soon be starring in TVLand’s new comedy “Younger”. She is currently starring in her latest Tony Nominated Role as Violet in the Broadway production of “Violet”. Sutton has more recently appeared in Johnny and the Sprites and Flight of the Conchords. As a solo artist, Sutton has graced the stages of Carnegie Hall, Feinstein’s, and Joe’s Pub, among others.

Career Path

1999Made her Broadway debut as a teenager after first appearing on national television on 'Star Search' at age 15, training through productions of 'The Will Rogers Follies', 'Grease!', and 'The Scarlet Pimpernel'.
2002Won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for 'Thoroughly Modern Millie', her breakthrough star turn that immediately established her as Broadway's leading ingenue.
2011Won a second Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for 'Anything Goes', with the performance at the Roundabout Theatre also earning her the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Astaire, and Broadway.com Audience Favorite Awards.
2021Published the memoir 'Hooked: How Crafting Saved My Life', detailing how cross-stitching and crocheting carried her through pivotal personal challenges.
2021Reprised Reno Sweeney in a West End staging of 'Anything Goes' at London's Barbican Theatre, earning a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical.
2022Starred opposite Hugh Jackman as Marian Paroo in the Broadway revival of 'The Music Man', earning her seventh Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical and winning the Drama League Award for Distinguished Performance.
2024Stepped into the Broadway revival of 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street' as Mrs. Lovett opposite Aaron Tveit, performing a 12-week limited engagement.
2024Headlined a Broadway revival of 'Once Upon a Mattress' at the Hudson Theatre in a new adaptation by Amy Sherman-Palladino, extending the run to Los Angeles' Ahmanson Theatre.
2025The cast recording of 'Once Upon a Mattress: The 2024 Broadway Cast Recording' was released, preserving her performance for a wider audience.
