BIOGRAPHy

The Beach Boys have often been called “America’s Band,” and Allmusic has stated that their “unerring ability made them America’s first, best rock band.” The group has had thirty-six United States Top 40 hits (the most by an American rock band) and fifty-six Hot 100 hits, including four number-one singles. Rolling Stone listed the Beach Boys at number 12 on their 2004 list of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time.” They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. More recently, in 2012, the band released That’s Why God Made the Radio. The Beach Boys continue to record and perform all over the world.

Career Path

1961Debuted with 'Surfin'' on Candix Records, launching a run that would produce 36 U.S. Top 40 hits, more than any other American rock band.
1963Released three albums in a single year ('Surfin' USA,' 'Surfer Girl,' 'Little Deuce Coupe'), establishing a catalog pace that made them the dominant American band of the early British Invasion era.
1966'Pet Sounds' redefined what a pop album could be, influencing the Beatles' 'Sgt. Pepper' and later earning a place in Rolling Stone's list of the greatest albums of all time.
1988Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the same year 'Kokomo' became their first No. 1 single in 22 years.
2004Rolling Stone ranked the Beach Boys No. 12 on its list of the '100 Greatest Artists of All Time,' cementing their place in rock's critical canon.
2012Reunited the classic lineup for a 50th anniversary tour and released 'That's Why God Made the Radio,' their first studio album in over two decades.
2023CBS aired 'A Grammy Salute to The Beach Boys,' a star-studded tribute at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles with all five principal members present in a special box.
2024Disney+ released the documentary 'The Beach Boys,' directed by Frank Marshall and Thom Zimny, featuring never-before-seen footage and fresh interviews with Brian Wilson, Mike Love, and Al Jardine.
2025Brian Wilson, the band's primary songwriter and studio visionary, died at the age of 82, prompting a global outpouring from artists and fans across six decades of music history.
