BIOGRAPHy

Vanessa Carlton has been going full sprint since she was discovered by legendary record executive Ahmet Ertegun when she was still a teenager. Signed by Jimmy Iovine soon after, she exploded onto the pop scene with the platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated Be Not Nobody in 2002. But as she was nearing thirty, Carlton felt lost. Carlton needed a fresh start and ultimately, she made her way to Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in Box, England, where she created something that harks back to a different era of music-making: ten intimate, evocative songs, recorded direct to tape with a close-knit team of collaborators. The songs that make up Rabbits on the Run, her 2011 release, retain Carlton’s impeccable melodic sensibility, but are consistently surprising and unpredictable. Vanessa released Liberman in 2015 and continues to tour the world.

Career Path

2002Discovered as a teenager by Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun and signed by Jimmy Iovine, Carlton exploded onto the pop scene with debut album 'Be Not Nobody', which reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200.
2002'A Thousand Miles' earned three Grammy nominations including Record of the Year and Song of the Year at the 45th Annual Grammy Awards, and became the sixth-most-played song of the year.
2004Followed with 'Harmonium', featuring lead single 'White Houses', deepening Carlton's piano-pop songwriting into more introspective territory.
2007Released 'Heroes & Thieves', her third studio album, with 'Nolita Fairytale' as the lead single.
2011Traveled to Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios in Box, England to record 'Rabbits on the Run' direct to tape, producing ten intimate songs that retained her melodic gift while shedding the commercial sheen of her early career.
2015Released 'Liberman' and toured globally in support of the record, building a dedicated following that followed her through her pivot to independent releases.
2019Made her Broadway debut at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre as Carole King in 'Beautiful: The Carole King Musical', performing for a 10-week run.
2020Released 'Love Is an Art', her sixth studio album, produced by Dave Fridmann.
2024Co-wrote the film score for 'Wish You Were Here' alongside husband John J. McCauley III, a project directed by longtime friend and actress Julia Stiles.
2026Released 'Veils' on her own imprint Liberman Records, produced by Dave Fridmann, and delivered a surprise performance at Coachella, one of the most talked-about sets of the festival.
