William Close & MASS Ensemble is worlds beyond a musical group. Its members are inventors, sculptors, digital artists, and acrobats. Equipped with instruments of its own invention, MASS Ensemble fills the stage with musical creations that are stunning and stimulating to the ear, as well as eye. Combining original music, stunning instruments, video projection, and aerial performance options, MASS Ensemble creates a veritable feast for the senses. The group is best known for its Earth Harp, “The World’s Largest Stringed Instrument,” whose strings span out from the stage and over the audience’s heads. The Earth Harp places the audience inside the instrument as it is played, establishing an interactive music experience for all. This creation as well as other instruments unique to MASS Ensemble function symphonically with traditional instruments, establishing a blend of classical and contemporary styles.
